Certified Nurse Aide (CNA - AL104)?

(5 credit hours) Successful completion of this course enables the student to perform basic nursing skills in a supervised setting. The student applies the fundamental nursing care concepts in a lab and clinical setting. The student prepares to meet the basic physiological and psychological needs of individuals in a healthcare setting. The student explores the regulations and requirements for providing care in a nursing facility. The students' successful completion of this 90-hour course enables them to take the Kansas Certified Nurse Aide exam for licensure.

Certified Medication Aide (CMA - AL110)

Prerequisites: Certified Nurse Assistant licensure and a reading level of eighth grade or above.

(4 credit hours) Successful completion of this course will enable the student to take the Kansas Certified Medication Assistant exam for licensure. The student will perform mathematical functions. These include learning and converting both the metric and apothecary systems and medication calculations. The student practices medication administration skills in a supervised setting. the student explores drug categories and basic pharmacology. The student will review body systems functions in this course.

Students must be able to complete all online coursework and attend ALL labs and clinical sessions in person. It is important for a student to know the schedule before enrolling.

Age Minimum Students in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) class must be at least 16 years of age by the course end date. Certified Medical Aide (CMA) students must be at least 18 years of age by the time clinicals and labs begin.

Flu Vaccination?A flu vaccination may be required by the clinical facility during the fall/winter months.

Physical Requirements To provide safe, effective resident care in a learning environment, a student must be able to lift 50 + pounds. Students with a physical limitation or pre-existing conditions must provide a medical provider’s note of medical clearance or plan to take the course at another time.

Online learners Students must be computer literate and have reliable internet accessibility to take the course online.

Class Size Only ten students per CNA course and six per CMA course are accepted into each section.

Kansas High School Students The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offered by the Kansas Board of Regents allows high school students enrolling in the CNA and CMA courses to have tuition waived. Students just need to pay a $93.00 fee and approximately $80.00 for a textbook/workbook package. To secure this pricing, it is important for students to apply as a high school student when submitting the Application for Admission to Colby Community College.?

All Other Students Students enrolling in CNA and CMA courses will pay the current tuition rate according to residency. A $93.00 fee and approximately $80.00 for a textbook/workbook package are also required. Books are required to start the class.
